Signs to Consider When Hosting a Celebration Of Life (with photo examples)

Lovely Day Events

Celebration of life signs are the best way to communicate with your guests while adding the honoree’s personality to the event. They are a perfect way to add your colors, theme, and style to make them truly represent your loved one. You want to make sure that they can be read from a short distance but it is important also to make them meaningful and memorable (aka add in personality).

A popular question I get when planning someone’s celebration of life is ‘What signs do I need for my event?’ so I knew that a celebration of life signs blog post would be super helpful. Below is my list of celebration of life signs that you can use for your event to hopefully make this time a little less stressful.

Celebration of Life Signs

Below is the list of the most popular types of event signs used for a celebration of life ceremony and why they are needed.

This is a great opportunity to include your loved one's favorite colors, hobbies, flowers, etc. This sign should embrace their spirit while welcoming everyone in with positivity. Remember, celebrations of life are meant to be more joyous, positive, and endearing occasions while funerals take on a more somber note.

  • Celebration of Life Welcome Sign - This sets the tone for the entire event as it is usually the first thing the guests see when they get there. This is a great opportunity to include your loved one's favorite colors, hobbies, flowers, etc. This sign should embrace their spirit while welcoming everyone in with positivity. Remember, celebrations of life are meant to be a more joyous, positive, and endearing occasion while funerals take on a more somber note.

  • Celebration of Life Guestbook Sign - This one is to encourage people to sign the guestbook. You do not have to go traditional with an actual book but instead, you can have the guests sign your loved ones favorite jersey or sign a quilt that they made. This should be a keepsake for the family to help them remember all the love that surrounds them during this difficult time.

  • Ceremony Decor Signs - These can be used throughout the event and are great ways to add quotes from the dearly departed, meaningful memories, or special moments that you want to share.

  • Celebration of Life Program Sign - This sign is great for letting everyone know where they can pick up a program so that they know what to expect throughout the event.

  • Cards  - This will let people know where they can drop off their gifts or cards. Please note gifts are not common for a celebration of life but cards are so having a place for them is always appreciated by guests.

  • Memories Table - This sign lets people know that this table houses memories and much-loved items from the dearly departed. It is another way to feel close to them.

  • How I knew… - This is a cute sign that is combined with a name tag for the guests to write their names and how they knew the celebrant. This helps with getting conversations started in an effortless way.

  • Menu and Beverage Sign - if you are offering a meal or appetizers, a sign explaining what will be on offer is very helpful to the guests. It will also allow people with allergies to get an idea of what is there without having to take a bite first or skipping the food altogether.

  • Seating Arrangement - If you are doing a sit-down meal, a seating arrangement is always nice so your guests don’t have to figure out where they should be.

Remember that if you choose to work with a celebration of life and memorial planner, they can also help you find and meet with a signage designer (that they already know and trust) therefore removing the stress of finding one on your own. Event planners, like myself, are there to help you plan meaningful celebrations of life (memorials and funerals) without feeling even more stressed out and with the peace of mind that you have an expert there with you every step of the way.
